Finnish Society Winetasting Trip 2006

On Sunday the 12th of November a group of us took part in a wine tasting trip around Auckland. The first stop in the morning was at Bees Online Café for coffee and scones, plus info on bees. A great place to visit for all ages, with a good selection of honey and gift items. From there we went to Coopers Creek Winery for the first tasting session. We traveled in a tour coach run by Over the Moon Wine Tours who organised all the bookings. We were well looked after by David Moon our driver who offered fantastic service even cooking on the BBQ for us later.

Next stop was Nobilo's Winery where every thing was available for tasting and a busy spot with another small group there at the same time. After purchasing more vino we headed for Westbrook and lunch. After a special tasting by wine maker Anthony Ivicevich we had our picnic lunch outside. After lunch we headed for Sapich Brothers Winery in Henderson to experience what wine tasting in New Zealand used to be like. Basically ports, sherries and some great stuff called purple death. A real fun experience to end the day.

We got dropped back to our pick up point in Mt Eden, where some of us enjoyed a few more drinks at the Poste Tarvern. I can highly recommend the day out and hope we can do another wine trip again in the near future. David Moon also goes to Matakana up north or Cleveland out to the East. Cost per person was $48/person.
